No bath safety plan is complete unless it considers the need for a beside commode.  For the weak and infirm, a portable commode offers dignity in toileting with conservation of energy.  Check out these Bedside commodes at bathsafetyfirst.com

Bathing Issues / Re: Bathroom Grab Bars
« on: September 07, 2013, 09:43:11 PM »
The Adjustable Height Bathtub Grab Bar Safety Rail is a good choice for anyone able to maintain a reasonable grip, and use upper body strength to support themselves during bathtub entry and exit.

It offers firm support based on the side of the tub itself.  Can support up to 300 lbs.

Bathing Issues / Bath Safety Site Update
« on: August 01, 2013, 10:41:09 PM »
Recently we updated the new Bath Safety First website to use different store software.

Initially, we used a new software package called Abantecart.  This turned out to be inconvenient to use and maintain, and not as security minded as we demand our software to be.  So, we rebuilt the site using a different application.

The main page remains at http://www.bathsafetyfirst.com

Medication Management / Medication Organizers
« on: October 19, 2012, 06:52:30 PM »
One of the biggest problems encountered with medication is successfully administering them on a regular basis.  Simply put - if you forget to take the pill, it doesn't work.

Life Solutions Plus offers a variety of products to help with this.  See the Medicine Organizers category on the store site.

General Discussion / Re: Some Halfway Decent Spam
« on: October 27, 2010, 03:21:23 AM »
The initial post above was extracted from a topic in which it did not belong.  It is not terribly pertinent to pancreatic cancer or comfort measures, but at least it bears some passing resemblance to being related to this sites general purpose.  This is much closer than most of our spammers have come.

Given that it was strewn with completely unrelated gaming links to with traditional Chinese anchor text, it wasn't enough to prevent the member from being banned and his account deleted - but it is a nice try.  If you are selling spamming services and looking to use this site to route traffic to your customers, please try to do better than this - and bet on being banned and deleted if you don't!

Bathing Issues / Re: Our bathing challenge
« on: October 27, 2010, 03:07:45 AM »
This is just the kind of question we're here to field.

Replacing the entire stall should not be necessary.  A shower transfer bench and/or bathtub rail are much less expensive.  Transfer benches will run in the $100 neighborhood and bathtub rails as little as half that, so you can see this is much more affordable than a remodel.

Check out Carex bathtub rail and Norco Tub Transfer Bench and Carex Universal Transfer..

Our August 2010 newsletter went out yesterday.  In this issue we addressed mobility related safety issues, focused mostly on walker and cane maintenance.

This included information on products which would be used to repair, replace or enhance walker and cane tips and grips.

Nutritional Support / Good Food, Good Health - Not always easy
« on: July 25, 2010, 12:17:38 AM »
Most of us are aware that eating well enhances health and take our ability to meet our nutritional needs for granted.

Only when we realize how difficult it can become to prepare healthy meals when the ability to grasp is impaired in some way do we start looking for solutions.  This can be hard.   This board is dedicated to discussing the difficulties and the tools that can be used to overcome them...

Mobility Aides and Issues / The Mobility Forum:
« on: July 18, 2010, 05:19:30 AM »
Movement is life.

Movement drives the skeletal muscle pump that helps return blood from the furthest reaches of the body.

Motion is life.

Motion helps equalize pressure around the joints, promoting comfort and improving joint function.

Mobilization is life.

Mobilization generates impact, changing laminar flows within the body to non-laminar flows which help prevent stasis of viscous fluids in pulmonary and circulatory paths.

Movement is life.

Movement allows us to reposition the body - moving the point of maximal pressure from one part of the body surface to another and maintaining healthy perfusion to all our tissue.

Motion is life.

Motion moves us from where we are to where we dream of being, turning yesterdays vision into todays reality and tomrorrows memories.

Mobility is life.

Mobility creates change in the curves and angles of the body, pleasing the eye, troubling the mind, raising us above the mundane and stretching creation before us.

Movement is life.

Movement carries us forward as we bury our past, casting anchors in the ocean of time, connecting us to our future.

Motion is life.

Ok, not everyone waxes poetic over mobility.  But there can be no doubt that mobility is a critical need in our lives.  So, the Independent Living forums is establishing this forum as a place to discuss impaired mobility and the ways and means we use to deal with it.

Caregivers Corner / Caregiving and Independent Living
« on: July 18, 2010, 03:25:20 AM »
Living independently is about facing the challenges one meets in life and meeting them on your own terms.  Sometimes, doing so requires some help.

Whether its simply listening as we vent frustrations, or actively addressing our issues for us, the people who help us meet life's challenges are caregivers.  This is their place.

We don't expect confidential information to be shared here. In fact, I'd strongly discourage it and am likely to delete it if you do.   But if you need a place to sound off about general issues, shoot the breeze to vent your frustrations or share helpful hints and tips on care giving and related issues feel free...

General Discussion / LifesolutionsPlus.com RSS Feeds
« on: February 28, 2010, 06:03:04 AM »
I've been adding new RSS feed generators to the http://lifesolutionsplus.com website.  The content covered includes products, product reviews, articles and article topics (think "categories") at the moment.

Why is this important?  Because RSS Feeds allow users to retrieve data on a subscription basis using tools under their own control - RSS Readers.  The readers configuration can be used to apply custom style sheets, allowing not only readability tailored to the users own needs, but the ability to change the layout to suit their own taste.

Further, RSS Readers allow users to get up to date information about new products, articles and reviews submitted by other users in an easy to use fashion - with new RSS feed items retrieved and organized by the reader on demand, or on a schedule of the users choice.  Talk about independence!

Information on styling RSS Feeds can be found at:

http://mondaybynoon.com/2006/08/14/beginning-to-style-your-rss-feed/
http://www.mozilla.org/unix/customizing.html
http://www.squarefree.com/userstyles/
and
http://userstyles.org/  where a number of users share their own stylesheets.

The Firefox "Stylish" addon extends Firefoxes capabilities adn makes it easier to manage user stylesheets.
